The NBI library is Norway's specialist library for the literature of children and young people.
The book collection numbers about 75 000 volumes.
The NBI library collects:
- All books published for children and young adults in Norway.
- Specialist literature on children's literature, both Norwegian and interational.
The collection of children's books dates back to the 19th century and also includes some titles from the 18th century Dano-Norwegian literature.
The specialist literature covers, in addition to books on children's literature, topics such as fairy-tales, comics, book illustration, children and reading and promotion of literature.
Research reports and contemporary theses from Norwegian universities and colleges are also collected.
The books are organised systematically by genre on open shelves.
Most of the collection is available for loan.
