Exhibition and research on Michael Morpurgo at Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children’s Books, England
08. august 2016–25. september 2016
If you’re visiting the North East of England this summer, do drop into Seven Stories: The National Centre for Children’s Books! We welcome researchers to our Collection and hold material from over 250 authors and illustrators from 1930 to the present, including numerous picturebooks: http://www.sevenstories.org.uk/collection Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or phone: 0191 495 2707 to arrange a visit.
Seven Stories’ new exhibition Michael Morpurgo: A Lifetime in Stories is also now open at our Visitor Centre in Newcastle. Morpurgo’s archive is on display for the first time and the exhibition showcases the notebooks and manuscripts that became War Horse, Private Peaceful, Kensuke’s Kingdom and Farm Boy. The exhibition runs at Seven Stories until 2nd July 2017, before touring nationally.
A ground-breaking Knowledge Transfer Partnership between Seven Stories and Newcastle University has supported the development of this exhibition. Dr. Jessica Medhurst has been exploring Michael’s archive and she has created a series of ‘Looking Closer’ panels to give our visitors an insight into her research on the archive.
And if you can’t make it up to the Toon, I’d encourage you to take a look Jessica’s recent post on our Collections Blog, All About: (War) Horses. This gives an overview of Seven Stories’ holdings relating to War Horse – including a version of the story where Joey ends up as horse meat…!
